Welcome to RROC’s Foster Opportunities
Selected dogs that enter the Retriever Rescue of Colorado program begin their new life’s journey spending time with an approved foster family. So many of our dogs have been provided loving foster environments which aids in their socialization, development and growth.
As a foster family, you will serve as a protector, caretaker and be the first extension in the process of offering a second chance to an animal that may have been set to be euthanized, turned over to a high-kill shelter or may have lost its family due to extenuating circumstances. RROC’s foster parent program offers an avenue to give back as a symbol of how successful and invaluable love and care can be when the world fails these animals.
The benefits of fostering an RROC dog are immeasurable
As a foster family you will be the ultimate provider of security, love, companion and a nurting home environment that a rescued dog needs to thrive. Please note that all of the above requirements cost nothing and offer a second chance to a retriever in need.
While fostering you will be required to:
- Evaluate your rescued foster’s behavior, temperament and energy level.
- Determine if your foster is housebroken
- Identify personality traits, such as dominance, submissiveness, patience with children?
- Any sign of aggression? Around food? Other dogs? Cats?
- Basic obedience? …and anything else you would like us to know that would aid us in finding the best match for your foster…
In return we will put your foster’s picture and description on RROCs website and our Matching Coordinator will lead the effort to find your retriever’s new forever home.
Ensure that your foster dog is available to meet potential adopters
When a match has been identified, a completed application, phone and home visit notes will be readily available to you. All you have to do is review the information, set up an introduction and showcase your foster to their possible future family!
What RROC provides foster families:
RROC can provide a crate, food, collar, leash and any necessary medical care for the duration of their stay in a foster home. While RROC cannot be held responsible for any damage to personal property that a foster could possibly cause, we will cover all illness-related medical expenses caused by a foster or results yielded by the unlikely event of a foster becoming hostile.
Health/Medical Needs
Most RROC dogs are healthy, well-adjusted dogs that move quickly from their foster home to their forever family. There is no guarantee how long or short a foster dog will remain in foster care. However, our organization works directly with each of its foster homes to move dogs in and out of foster care as quickly as possible, but never at the risk of placing a dog in the wrong forever home.
Are you ready to foster?
Fostering a dog is one of the most important jobs within the rescue. Without foster families, RROC would be unable to save the lives of our previous retrievers. If you are ready to open your home and heart, please fill out a volunteer application online and get started right away. Our foster coordinator will work closely with our Intake Coordinator in order to bring in a dog suitable for your lifestyle.
Additional questions can be directed to [email protected]. Our online foster flyer is also available for your viewing. We look forward to making you part of the RROC family!
